About the artist
Rachel Gomme is an artist working across performance, drawing and participatory activities (one-to-one performance, walks, workshops). Her work, often site-responsive, reflects on humans’ physical, emotional and spiritual relationship with the physical environment and the wider living world. As a long-time city dweller, she has a special interest in how nature, including humans, survives, navigates and thrives in the urban infrastructure. She is based in London and has been making and exhibiting her work since 1998.

‘Forest Lisburn: A Celebration of Trees’ is an exhibition with an environmental theme featuring the work of multi-disciplinary artist Rachel Gomme. It brings together large-scale drawings, alternative maps, mixed-media objects and interactive works to celebrate the urban forest in Lisburn and beyond.
From the majestic mature trees of Wallace Park and Castle Gardens to new woodland plantations and the unsung stalwarts on the city’s streets, trees play a vital role in the urban ecology, absorbing pollution, supporting biodiversity, and enhancing physical and mental health. Bringing the presence of trees into the gallery, this exhibition invites memories and reflections on personal relationships with trees, and offers opportunities for imaginative and everyday engagement with trees in the city.
