Volunteer call out for Linen Opera extras!

10 people (18+yrs) are required to perform non-singing roles in a new opera created by R-Space for the Linen Biennale in partnership with Northern Ireland Opera. Waking Beauty is written by Peter Morgan Barnes and composed by Seán Doherty; it explores what might happen in the present day if, as in the tale of Sleeping Beauty, the government fell asleep for a hundred years. What kind of world might they find when they wake up, and how would people have treated the sleeping bodies in the meantime?

These non-singing roles are government advisors who listen to a furious row between the King and his daughter, before going off to tweet about it on their phones. They fall asleep when the King’s daughter is pricked by an enchanted thorn and remain in those recumbent positions for most of the opera – half an hour. They awake when the thorn is accidentally removed and are not at all pleased with how things have changed.

Rehearsals are on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October 3.00-5.00pm, at R-Space Gallery, 32, Castle Street, Lisburn, BT27 4XE.

The Performance is at the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn on Saturday 20 October. The cast are called between 2.00pm to 5.00pm with a break between 5.00 and 7.00pm, before the performance at 7.30/8pm.

If you would like to have a nap on the floor during a short opera, please contact R-Space Gallery on 02892 663179 or email rspace@linenroomslisburn by the closing date Friday 12 October 2018 at 12noon.
