Stitching Memories

January 9, 2017

Join textile artist Heather Burgess in this free workshop 1-3pm  Saturday 21 or Saturday 28 January 2017.

collar_4_heatherburgess2015-v2You will learn a number of hand stitches and patch work techniques, that can be used to create textile works to catalogue memories or create a token that can become part of a keepsake.  Material will be provided, but it would be helpful to bring along a pair of scissors.  If you have any scraps of material, beads or buttons that you would like to work into a piece, please feel free to bring those along.  The pieces you make can be made into a small picture or brooch.

These workshops are part of Heather’s solo show Emerging Reality – a rogue butterfly which continues to 3 February. Open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 5pm. Admission free.

Film Makers

January 4, 2017

For August Craft Month 2016 five NI makers were invited to produce new work in response to heritage footage from Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive. Sharon Adams, Sheena Devitt, Nicola Gates, Alison Fitzgerald and Ronan Lowery each created new works spanning heritage, functional and conceptual outcomes, which formed the Film Makers exhibition.

In this free talk, participant Sharon Adams discusses how the project pushed all five makers to take risks in their respective practices, and shows both the films that inspired the work and new footage that recorded their processes.

The project was curated by R-Space Gallery and partly funded by both the BFI and ACNI.
